Rene Reyes aka GENR8 is a man of many guises. He has been an integral part in several production power houses throughout the years and today continues to push the boundaries of electronic music production. Rene started out djing in Miami for several years before taking aim at producing, and has been passionate about primarily drum & bass production since. Back in 2004, Rene started production duo Alliance alongside pop music producer The Illfactor. The same year, they won a remix competition put together by Intercom Records for which they released their first single "Jive". Alliance went on to release several dance floor smashers on labels such as Incite, Nemesis and Cymbalism.
The year 2005 was a big one for GENR8 and his Alliance project. Alliance was picked up by Dieselboy’s Human imprint for a ground-tearing dnb remix of dance icon BT’s “The Great Escape". The remix was later included on a compilation titled, “The Human Resource,” which debuted at #14 on Billboard's Electronic Album chart. Around the same time, Rene caught the attention of Vegas and Maldini from legendary dnb group Bad Company. They quickly picked him up for the first two compilation releases on the now well established, Bad Taste Records.
Based in Miami at the time, Rene was invited by four-time world champion turntablist DJ Craze to collaborate on some tunes for his new dnb label Cartel Inc., Out of those sessions he released two songs alongside Infiltrata (12th Planet) and Craze himself. Then In 2007, GENR8 teamed up with South Africa’s darkchilds Counterstrike for a melodic, but deadly track that
caught the attention of famed US glitch'n'bass mob, Evol Intent. The tune was released later that year on their on imprint, Evol Intent Recs. GENR8 was also highly influential in the success of another production project known as The Chosen. Under The Chosen, he has had releases with reputable labels such as Habit, Nemesis and recently Ohm Resistance. As Rene pursued his passion for the music, he also managed to swiftly incorporate his skills in the professional sound engineering world. With a touch of luck and plenty of determination, he landed a full-time engineering gig doing audio post for a busy studio in Miami parallel to his underground movement. Eventually he decided to get out of the hectic world of mainstream audio production, and took up an opportunity to teach what he loved most to hungry minds at the prestigious Fullsail University in Orlando, FL. In 2008, he made a big move cross country to Los Angeles for an opportunity to teach at the Los Angeles Recording School where he currently runs the school's electronic production clinics and along with instructing and lecturing in various audio engineering courses.
The past few years have found GENR8 in a state of constant transition and internal growth as he has decided to focus on developing his solo sound. In 08', he linked up with Gridlok and landed a tune on his Project 51 imprint on a compilation with US dnb godfather AK1200 titled “Autopsy”. The release would go on to be nominated for a Grammy award later that year. In '09, he was approached by AK1200 to remix legendary underground rock band Prong’s "Pure Ether" for a compilation titled “Power of the Damned mixxxer” released later that year. This year also saw his first Dubstep release
on Sub Pressure Recordings titled “Majestic 12”.
In 10' and 11' GENR8's releases Included a track for Skynet’s Nvision imprint released on 12" vinyl as well as his first official DJ mix release of a compilation titled “Edge of Expansion” which included two of his
productions for the same label. Also two tunes on AK1200’s Big Riddim VIP and a neuro-funk remix of DJ Empress’ “Alien nation” to debut her Empower label. A collaboration with new dnb stars Legion was picked up for Gein's Bad Chemistry, another remix with AK1200 for breaks heavyweights Nubreed and Burufunk and a remix for Jungle veteran label Force Recordings. In 11' he also started delving more deeply in the dubstep realm with another release on Sub Pressure titled “Vimana”.
The year 2012 is a year of big progression for GENR8 with the launch of his own imprint GENR8ION. Firing off the release schedule for the new label he recently released his debut solo E.P. titled “Now The Future” which showcases the dexterity of his well developed signature sound. He also plans to focus on his new website GENR8ION.COM where he will have most of his own material for download as well as offer a medium of electronic music education through constant tutorials showcasing the work-flow and philosophy behind his music. The site will be primarily based on drum & bass, dubstep, but will stem out to other genres in the future.
